1d Black (PK) Plate 4 used on cover from Manchester Aug 6th 1840 (internally paper heading Bridgewater  Foundry Patricroft)--has what seems to be an Eccleston straight line in Red top of cover-- Stamp fine with 4 good margins-Cover has a light fold line at base but otherwise clean and fresh--  £185  SOLD

 

1d Black (TF) Plate 4 used on env from Worstead 12th July 1840--- Reverse shows Worstead undated circular in deep brown + Norwich light part Norwich CDS.  Stamp is fine cancelled (not tied) by a (maroonish) Red MX  -  Env a bit yellowish/toned---£145    SOLD

1d Black (SK) Plate 5 used on cover from London (Ibbotsons Hotel) Feb 27th 1841-- Stamp with 4 wide to large margins - cancelled by London broken points MX--Cover with light horiz crease   £235    SOLD

1d Black (IE) Plate 5 used on cover from Galashiells  14th Dec 1840.  Stamp with 4 wide margins cancelled by a very good strike of Brownish Red MX--Cover of good appearance has a couple of taped up repaired tears on reverse flap----£220

1d Black (OD) Plate 5 used on small env cancelled by a fine London Broken Points MX in Black- Also shows  boxed T.P Clapham Com beside-Stamp with 4 good to wide margins.

The env a bit yellowish---£250

1d Black (OJ) Plate 5 used on cover from Maryport Aug 19-1842.   (Blue town CDS on reverse)--Shows blue Workington town CDS on front--Stamp with 4 clear to wide margins--has a small taped up spike hole lower right--   £90  SOLD

1d Intense Black (QE) Plate 6 superb used on small env from Liskeard 8th Nov 1840 (faint town CDS on front)-- Stamp is very fine with 4 good to wide margins  cancelled by a very fine Red MX (envs bearing 1d Blacks are not common)--  £245

Stamp is superb with 4 good to large margins tied by super strike of bright Red MX- Cover with couple slight faults (light taped up rips at base, however generally clean and attractive--£325   SOLD

1d Black (NC) Plate 7 used on cover -reverse shows Tottenham Provincial type CDS for 25th Sept 1840 on reverse--Stamp with 4 good to wide margins tied by  Red MX which leaves profile clear- The cover is clean and uncreased  (the contents are unusually a lenghty private letter to C.Wise from his aunt) -- £240

1d Black (LA) Plate 7 used on cover showing Idle Penny Post in red + Bradford-Yorks town CDS both on front.  Stamp with 4 clear to wide margins cancelled by Red MX in same colour as Idle PP (though stamp not tied)- Cover with light horiz +faint vert creasing - some parts of reverse internal letter missing (not visible untill letter opened up) - but in general appearance is good  -- £220   SOLD
